iMessage App

With the MathX iMessage app, you can make calculations or access to your history without having to leave the Messages app.

Enable the iMessage app

Before you can start using MathX in Messages, you need to enable the app. Here’s how.

  1. Launch Messages.
  2. Tap .
  3. Tap , tap Store, tap Manage, then turn on MathX.
  4. Tap Done in the upper right corner to go back to the app switcher.

That's it! You can now use MathX inside Messages.

Using MathX iMessage App on iPhone

Insert the result into the message field. Tap .

Clear the expression field. Tap .

Enter alternate functions. To type alternate function, touch and hold a key, then slide to choose one of the options.

Radian/Degrees switch. On iPhone, the Radian/Degrees switch lives in the Function keyboard.

Keyboard

Enter alternate functions. To type an alternate functions, touch and hold a key, then slide to choose one of the options.

Use smart keys. Smart keys will try to find which character is the most appropriate for the current context. For example, the smart key "( )" will try to find which parenthesis is necessary. You can force the character by touching and holding the key.

Turn the keyboard into a trackpad.1 On iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus, press the keyboard until it turns light gray. Move the cursor by dragging around the keyboard. Without lifting your finger, press a little deeper to select a word.

On iPhone 6 Plus and later, the keyboard includes additional keys you may find useful. You can see these keys when you hold iPhone in landscape orientation.

Turn Haptic Feedback when typing on or off. On iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, go to MathX app > Settings > Today Widget.

Turn Keyboard Clicks on or off. Go to MathX > Settings > iMessage app.

Using MathX iMessage App on iPad

Insert the result into the message field. Tap .

Enter functions or numbers. To enter numbers, or functions, tap the Function key or the Number key

Using MathX in Messages

Place the insertion point.4 In the Expanded mode, you can drag to position the insertion point.

Use result.5 Touch and hold the result, then tap "Use Result". MathX tries to insert the result at the current cursor position if possible. Otherwise, it erases the calculation.

History

Insert result to message field. Tap a calculation to use its result.

Use expression. Swipe a calculation to the left, tap More, then tap "Use Expression". MathX tries to insert the result at the current cursor position if possible. Otherwise, it erases the calculation.

Delete calculation from your history. Swipe the calculation to the left, then tap Delete.

Keyboard Shortcuts

If you're using MathX iMessage app with an external keyboard connected to your iPad, you can take advantage of the app's built in keyboards shortcuts for many common tasks.

  • Send Result: ⏎
  • Copy Result: ⌥ + ⌘ + C
  • Move keyboard focus between the calculator and the history: ⇥
